Overview

The University of Maine, a proud member of the Hockey East Conference, launched an ambitious capital improvement project to revitalize the home of its storied hockey program. Supported by university leadership and state partnerships, including a $170 million commitment from the Harold Alfond Foundation, the Harold Alfond Sports Arena and the Shawn Walsh Hockey Center in Orono were reimagined to enhance the experience for student-athletes, coaches, fans, and the surrounding community.

Pinpoint led the production, fabrication, printing, and installation of the arena’s new branded graphics and signage package, transforming the facilities with modern branded environments that capture the spirit of Black Bear hockey. PC Construction, WBRC, Crawford Architects, and Forty Nine Degrees supported the project by providing construction management, architecture, design-build, and design resources.

The project includes fully updated spaces for coaching offices, team lounges, film and locker rooms, sports medicine, and equipment areas. Enhancements to the concourse, concessions, and restrooms add to the fan experience. Together, these upgrades create an electrifying atmosphere that celebrates UMaine’s hockey legacy while defining the standard for future collegiate arenas.
