Fabrication Background
For Season 5 of NFL Slimetime, Paramount and Studio 43 refreshed the series' signature broadcast set with new scenic elements that blended football highlights with Nickelodeon's unmistakable slime-filled personality. The updated environment needed to support weekly production while preserving the energetic, over-the-top visual style synonymous with the show.
Working alongside Production Designer Theron Wineinger and Studio 43, we fabricated and refreshed a collection of custom scenic components that helped define the studio environment. We created oversized monitor walls, illuminated architectural features, performance platforms, and refreshed set pieces engineered to meet the demands of an active television production while delivering the bold visual impact expected of Nickelodeon's NFL programming.
The Ask
We were tasked with fabricating several of the season's largest scenic components while matching the established visual language of NFL Slimetime. Each piece needed to integrate seamlessly into the existing studio, accommodate lighting, video displays, and production equipment, and withstand the rigors of a fast-paced television environment.
Beyond new fabrication, the project also included refurbishing existing scenic elements and adapting them to the refreshed Season 5 design, extending the life of the set while maintaining a cohesive appearance throughout the production.
The Work
We engineered and fabricated several of the largest scenic components that anchor the NFL Slimetime Season 5 set. Working from the production designer's creative vision, our team translated concept renderings into production-ready scenic structures, combining aluminum framing, CNC-routed MDF and PVC components, integrated RGB lighting, custom lightboxes, dimensional architectural details, and specialty scenic finishes to create durable, camera-ready environments.
Beyond new fabrication, the project included constructing performance platforms built to resist repeated slime effects, refurbishing existing scenic pieces, and repainting Nickelodeon's iconic slime barrels for the updated season. Every element was built for rapid installation, repeated weekly use, and the demanding pace of live studio production while continuing the fun, mechanical aesthetic that defines the NFL Slimetime brand.
